“I’m bleeding with no blood. Everything is pouring out of me, and I can’t stop it. It flows away. It laughs at me. But I still love it…” Harris, Harris Superman
The above quote reflects the emotional chaos of the title character in the play Harris Superman. In simple terms, Harris Cooperman is about to die. His life is flashing before his eyes. The entire 80 minutes of Harris Superman depicts this flashing, showing progressional poignant moments in Harris’s life from ages 4 to 20. One female actor plays the many women in Harris’s life, from his mother- to his fiancé- to his psychologist. This play contains a surprise ending that has left audience members pondering deeply past the fall of the curtain.

“Within minutes of my first read-through of the Harris Superman script, I knew I wanted to direct it. Nearly a year later, NovaStage did, indeed, produce it and I was fortunate enough to be sitting in the director’s chair. Harris Superman is a powerful, challenging puzzle that demands constant consideration, flexibility and creativity. The main arc of the plot is simple and, in contrast, the possibilities and depths to be found within the characters are nearly endless, which makes it a tremendous actor vehicle. The rewards of solving this puzzle are enormous; the show was a wonderful experience for all involved and received excellent feedback. Harris Superman is certainly one of the most enthralling two-handed shows to be written in this generation.” Anne Meighan, Honours BFA Ensemble Artistic Director, NovaStage
“I was very impressed with Harris Superman at NovaStage, the Canadian premiere by Jenny Kreyl. I think we’ll be hearing a lot more from her. Quite thought provoking play about trying to everybody’s hero in a troubled household.” Vic Folliott, “Talking Entertainment”
